The wonderful effervescence related to Boovie® brought to our ears suggestions from some teachers and students. So we change the regulations to stage them at a time when it does not confuse the evolution of those already registered.

  1. In accordance with article 5.6 of the BOOVIE® BOOK-TRAILER CONTEST FESTIVAL REGULATIONS , valid on 24.01.2021, the official opening date of the 6th edition;
  2. Following the suggestions from teachers and students in the country

The Boovie Board decides to make amendments to the Regulation, in the following chapters and articles (changes are highlighted in RED):

A. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. WHAT DOES “BOOVIE” MEAN?

Boovie is a festival – contest of book trailers which offers the participants a new form of training based on personal growth and non-formal ways such as aware reading, trailers, acting, creative writing, editing, cinematography, commercials. The festival takes place in Focsani town, the capital of Vrancea County, in August, 27th – 29th 2021 and, according to the pandemic evolution, the contest will be developed either online or physically.

2. CONTEST MAIN GOAL

The main goal of the contest is to motivate students to read consciously, by developing a book-trailer contest which captures the main idea of many novels that are essential for a teenager’s life, regardless the time and the part of the world.

3. CONTEST OBJECTIVES

3.1. The general objectives of the contest are: a) Fostering interest in reading and the pleasure of conscious reading; b) Stimulating students` critical and autonomous thinking as well as developing empathy; c) Developing the ability of working in teams; d) Developing the capacity to build a message through an integrated approach;; e) Creating a modern multicultural and transdisciplinary vision connected to contemporary realities. 3.2. The specific objectives of the contest are: a) Developing analytical and synthesizing skills by identifying the nodal meanings of a book and converting them into movie language; b) Encouraging flexibility in thinking, responsibility for team decisions but also emotional living; c) The training of team negotiating and persuasive skills required in making an advertising product; d) Developing the spirit of value-based competition; e) Developing technical skills and applying them to the development of a book-trailer; f) Stimulating creativity and its expression in multimodal languages; g) Widening the cultural horizon through contact with different worlds and cultures, as well as with diverse learning situations.

4. PARTICIPANTS

Middle school students – 5th to 8th grades, high school students–9th to 12th grades, from the public and private education units, from Romania and abroad, as well as students enrolled in theatre/filmmaking, etc. clubs or in units active under CAEN code 8552 (education porposes), from the same education cycle provided they have a coordinating teacher.

B. DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPETITION

1. SECTIONS OF THE COMPETITION

The festival will take place over three days, with direct participation or online, if the situation requires it. The competition consists of three sections: BOOVIE Kids – for middle school students (5th and 6th grades). It is divided into 2 subsections, one for each novel entered in the contest. BOOVIE Junior – for middle school students (7th and 8th grades, as well as 9th grade for countries where it is included in the secondary school level, e.g. the Republic of Moldavia). It is divided into 5 subsections, one for each novel entered in the contest. BOOVIE – for high school students. It is divided into 5 subsections, one for each novel entered in the contest. BOOVIE + – a section from different fields, non-literary/non-epic or related to the disciplines studied at school, for middle school and high school students. In this section there are accepted productions in the form of animation and self-made scenarios, based on the novel/theme announced by the organisers. EXTRO-BOOVIE – section intended for the Romanian students in diaspora; they will choose a book from the competition, according to the educational cycle to which they belong. POCKET-TRAILER – a section off the contest, intended for the teams that did not enroll in the official period or do not obey the current Regulation in terms of the minimum number of members.

2. REGISTRATION OF THE STUDENTS IN THE COMPETITION

2.1. The students` registration is done online on the website www.boovie.ro from February 11th to March 31st, 2021. 2.2. The registration is done by each participant, including the coordinating teacher, based on the website registration form. As a result of the enrollment every student will receive, on the provided   e-mail address, the information and consent notes. 2.3. The teacher will centralize the information and consent notes, will scan and upload them after the registration form has been completed on the website www.boovie.ro, being responsible for the validity of  each member’s data. 2.4. The team is considered registered and eligible after verification by the organizer of the correct and integral completion of the Registration Form and the Information and Consent Notes and the consent for processing personal data uploaded to the website www.boovie.ro. 2.5. The registration in the competition implies the acceptance and compliance, mandatory and irrevocable, of this Regulation by all participants. 2.6. The same team can sign up for two sections, but only in the following combinations: Boovie Kids/Junior (gymnasium) and Boovie+; or Boovie (high school) and Boovie+. 2.7. The coordinating teacher can request the end of a partnership contract between the educational institution they are a part of on one side and, on the other side, „Spiru-Haret” Pedagogical National College Focşani and Grow Up Project Association Focşani, considering the following: a) A teacher can coordinate 2 multiple teams; one team can only have a maximum of two coordinating teachers b) Only one partnership contract is ended for the same educational institution, regardless the number of coordinating teachers. c) The partnership request will be send by email at [email protected] 2.8. There is no sign-up or participation fee for pupils and teachers. 2.9. For Pocket Trailer section, the number of members in a team may vary up to 11 maximum. The team can choose any of the books in the competition, on the condition it belongs to their education cycle. This section is provided with separate prizes and it is not eligible for the Great Prizes in Boovie Gala Awards. The prizes will be set according to the views and appreciations on Boovie YouTube channel (40%) as well as the jury judgments (60%). 2.10. Each school may be represented by as many teams as wished.

3. THE ACTUAL CONDUCT OF THE COMPETITION

3.1. A team shall be composed of 6/7-11 members who can either be in the same class or different classes, but the same educational institution and the same educational cycle. A student can be part of 2 different teams, subject to the conditions of this regulation. 3.2. It is recommended that in the composition of the teams should be pupils who have the following abilities: – artistic (actors, scenarist, scenographer, costume-maker, director); – technical (video camera operator, video editor). 3.3. Each team will choose their own book that they want to make the trailer of before April 4th, 2021. The spots for each book will be limited, spots that will be occupied according to the order of the sign-ups. The book-assigning procedure is the following: – The teams read every book for the sections they’re in; – The coordinating teacher/the team leader accesses the platform that the Organizer offers and he fills out the request for the respective book’s assignment; – After sending the request, the teacher will automatically receive a confirmation message; – The teams that were unable to sign up in their desired subsection will be assigned to the subsections with free spots, randomly chosen online by the Organizer; – The teams from abroad can choose any book from the ones from the educational cycle to which they’re in, by direct announcement to the organizers, at the email address [email protected] 3.4. On 2021, April 6th the teams and their assigned books will be announced on the Boovie official Facebook page and also the random choosing for the books that still have free spots. 3.5. Between 2021, April 6th and August 1st, the teams will create their trailers. 3.6. The trailers have to be fully made by the pupils in the team, who can ask for guidance/help from parents/coordinating teachers, but without any direct interaction of them with the trailer creation. 3.7. When using sounds/music, images, graphic elements and effects as well, there shall be mentioned each and every one of them if taken from the public domain or through copyright, specifying: author first name, family name (if it’s the case), folder name, source link. All this information shall be noted in one template inserted in the final trailer credits. 3.8. Images, effects and graphic elements taken from the public domain or through copyright must not exceed 20 seconds in the trailer length. 3.9. The artistic plagiarism is strictly forbidden and leads to the trailer disqualification. In this respect, any situation of plagiarism shall be signaled via email at [email protected], in 7 days at the most since uploading the trailers on YouTube platform. The final decision belongs to the jury and will be officially communicated. 3.10. Each trailer will mandatory contain: a) team opening credits – school name and logo the team belongs to, name of team, title of the support book – maximum 10 seconds, in the first minute of the trailer. b) team closing credits – names of the pupils in the team / their roles played in the development of the project, the coordinating teacher’s name; the camera model they used and the app or software that they edited the film with, all the sources the music, images etc. were taken from (see art 3.7) – maximum 15 seconds. c) The organizer will add his own initial and final generics for each trailer but their length will not be taken into consideration at the trailer final timing 3.11. Trailer length: – trailer = minimum 3.00 minutes – maximum 3.30 minutes (including the team closing credits); – bloopers = 30 seconds, compulsory including project producing sequences (group meetings, shooting etc); – final product length = minimum 3.30 minutes – maximum 4 minutes. 3.12. All trailers must have English subtitles. 3.13. Trailers will be sent in MP4 format by 2021, August 1st via electronic transfer at the following email address [email protected] . The transfer must contain in the title the names of the team and the book that was the support of the trailer. 3.14. There must be attached in the same electronic transfer, a team-chosen relevant fragment of 20 seconds from the trailer, which will be promoted by the Organiser throughout the contest.

4. SELECTION, EVALUATION AND AWARDS

4.1. Book-trailers evaluation criteria: – integration of the major book meanings; – narrative quality of the script adapted to the book-trailer format, which is not supposed to be the summary of the book; – editing, sound and visual rythm accuracy; – persuasion ability; – accuracy of any written message; – directorial concept; – image impact, scenography, costumes, makeup; – adequacy of the soundtrack; – acting. 4.2. Boovie team will display the points after judging each trailer. 4.3. Should less than 3 trailers be at one subsection or at sections Boovie+/ ExtRO-Boovie/ Pocket Trailer , these will get a special prize and will compete for Great Prizes of Jury only. 4.4. Should more trailers have the same scores, the prize will be shared between the teams. 4.5. A  Festive Gala will be organised for the best trailers in the contest, for the following categories: interpretation, script, image, editing, original soundtrack, film director. Should not enough original soundtracks be, the prize will not be  awarded. 4.6. There will be prizes consisting of money and / or products, participation in thematic courses, invitations to TV/radio shows, as follows: • First prize for each subsection, and for the sections Boovie+ and ExtRO-Boovie; • Second prize for each subsection, and for the sections Boovie+ and ExtRO-Boovie; • Third prize for each subsection, and for the section Boovie+ and ExtRO-Boovie; • Mentions a number equals with 20% of the signed up teams for every section, and for the section Boovie+ și ExtRO-Boovie; • Popularity prizeBoovie special prize, awarded by Organiser and Festive Boovie Gala: • Great prize of jury for female/male interpretationGreat prize of jury for script Great prize of jury for imageGreat prize of jury for editingGreat prize of jury for original soundtrackGreat prize of jury for film directorGreat prize / BOOVIE® Trophy Partners and sponsors can offer special prizes and mentions. 4.7. The popularity prize will be given after the vote of the public. The trailers will be uploaded by the organizers on the YouTube channel, with a Facebook link. The only votes taken into consideration will be those of the subscribers of the Boovie channel. 4.8. Promoting the trailers on any type of social media, online or anything of the sort by the authors before the competition will result in disqualification. 4.9. Each of the team members, as well as the teachers involved will receive diplomas (for participation, coordinating teacher, accompanying teacher, etc, according to the situation).

5. FINAL DETAILS

5.1. DThe author rights go to the authors of the works but BOOVIE® also has ownership, through Focşani Grow Up Project Association. After the winners are announced, every scholar unit has the right to use the resulted book-trailers in the contest, in order to make the extracurricular activity known, to participate in other school events, etc, but with the mandatory keeping of the starting credits created by Organiser. 5.2. There are no participation fees. 5.3. Food is assured by the organizers, accommodation as well, but in the available budget limits, should the festival be organized face-to-face. 5.4. The coordinating teacher will accompany the group or may delegate another teacher from the same school. They will supervise the pupils throughout the whole festival period, being responsible for respecting the set of rules that will be handed over to them on arriving. 5.5. The students will have their school identification with a photo, stamped and up- to- date, and also the epidemiological medical notice. 5.6. The organizer has the right to adjust the current regulations if the situation calls for that, for the good progress of every stage. The adjustments will be announced as quickly as possible on the www.boovie.ro site and on the social media platforms (Facebook și Instagram). 5.7. The current regulations specify the conditions that the participants shall obey in order to be considered as qualified. The sign-up and participation in BOOVIE®, Festival-contest of book-trailers, the 6th edition, means for the participants to unconditionally and irrevocably comply with the regulations.
